Mendelssohn: Hebrides Overture
Carslake: Timidus
Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 (‘Scottish’)
The FSO’s Centenary Season opens the New Year with an homage to Scotland. Mendelssohn’s evocative Hebrides Overture opens the progamme, and his wonderful third symphony, the ‘Scottish’, closes it. The other work in the programme is the premiere of an orchestral piece by our Artistic Director, William Carslake, inspired by his camping trips in the Cairngorms.

It is with great excitement that the FSO is able to announce its first concert since the break due to the pandemic. All the works in our season opener begin in a minor key and transition to a major key – a metaphor for encouraging times ahead as the orchestra embarks on its centenary season.
