"The General" is second in The Independent's list of silent films
20 January 2012
"The General" has been identified as one of the top 10 silent movies in an article in The Independent published in today's edition of the paper. The award-winning film "The Artist" has revived interest in silent cinema and the article selects 10 of the best of the genre for the first-time viewer. Second in the list is "The General", a Buster Keaton classic from 1927, which the FSO will be presenting on 17th March (see Concert page for details) with live orchestral accompaniment. The viewing will take place at Farnham Maltings, with two performances during the day. The film has been described by Orson Welles as "the greatest comedy ever made, the greatest Civil War film ever made, and perhaps the greatest film ever made".
