Tuesday 20 July 2010: New Brochure for FSO 2010 - 2011 Season Published

The brochure for the FSO's new season has been published. Introducing the new season, Mark Fitz-Gerald (Music Director) writes, "As we begin looking forward to the Orchestra's 90th Anniversary year in 2012, this season's programmes are already leaning towards the festive and self-indulgent. None-the-less, as usual there are a number of FSO first performances on the list: in particular, and rather surprisingly, the overture to Don Giovanni. Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade replaces the usual concerto in the first concert, providing very exotic and prominent solos for our Leader, Tessa Welford, and Principal Cellist, Robin Chave, as well as the famous cadenzas for both clarinet and bassoon. Young Royal College of Music prize winner, Tom McLauchlan, will be joining us for the famous Rodrigo Guitar Concerto in January whilst the March concert gives us a rare chance to hear our very own tuba player, Chris Cosens, in Vaughan Williams' well known concerto. The horn and virtuoso flute solos in A Midsummer Night's Dream will also be something special to look forward to. Our season concludes with a Dvorak 'feast' in June, featuring Jonathan Ayling, one of the Principal Cellists from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, whose stunning interpretation of the concerto I know well and can wholeheartedly recommend. I hope you share my enthusiasm for this season's programme and wish you all much enjoyment and pleasure at our concerts."
